About Camila Batmanghelidjh
Camila is a Psychotherapist and founder of two children’s charities: The Place 2 Be (now national) and Kids Company (founded in 1996). Kids Company provides practical, emotional and educational support to vulnerable inner-city children. It employs more than 550 staff, benefits from 10,976 people volunteering annually and reaches 36,000 children a year with therapeutic care, including the most deprived and at risk whose parents are unable to care for them due to their own practical and emotional challenges. Many of the children face immense threat within their neighbourhoods. Often they are exposed to relentless violence, some are forced into working as drug couriers or prostitutes, and many experience chronic abuse. Kids Company support and empower children who have experienced enormous challenges to lead positive and fulfilling lives. In 2007 Kids Company was awarded the Liberty and Justice Human Rights Award. In 2010 they were selected as a ‘Child Poverty Champion’ by the End Child Poverty project for their success in enabling children to achieve their full potential. Kids Company currently has a partnership with the University of Cambridge and UCL involving research into neurodevelopmental trauma.

Camila has been engaged in 20 years of psychoanalysis and has become an advocate for vulnerable children. In 2009 she was named Business Woman of the Year for the Dods and Scottish Widows Public Life Awards. Camila has also been awarded Social Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst and Young, and Coutts and the Most Admired Chief Executive by Third Sector Magazine. She won the lifetime achievement award from the Centre of Social Justice. In 2010 Camila and Kids Company were given the Award for Innovative Excellence by Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Now. She is author of the groundbreaking book Shattered Lives. With her team she has raised over £50 million to help London's most vulnerable children. Regular media appearances as consultant.

Camila considers herself very privileged to be working with what she describes as extraordinarily courageous and dignified children. She has a good sense of humour and refuses to take herself seriously!
