Trainings Course

Healing Parent-Child Relationships

Two day course (10.00am-5.30pm, registration: 9.30-10.00am)
Thursday 22 April and Friday 23 April 2010

Cost: £250

In this ‘hands-on’ intensive training, participants will learn how to heal parent-child relationships which have suffered from too many misconnections, failed connections or attachment ruptures. The trainer will offer an approach that capitalises on the strengths and resources of both child and parent. A special emphasis will be placed on the practitioner’s creative use of self and inventiveness. The course format will include fascinating material and a wealth of skills-building exercises. Course participants who already work with parents and children together will also have the opportunity to present their most challenging cases for consultation. The course is also open to those who do not currently work with parent-child relationships but may wish to do so in the future.

Topics include:

  • Creative interventions to enable parent and child to engage in powerful and healing conversation
  • Mending attachment ruptures between parent and child
  • Building on the parent’s and child’s self-healing and problem-solving capacities
  • Practising on the creative edge outside the comfort zone with children and parents
  • Engagement strategies with reluctant parents and family members
  • Untold family stories
  • Skill-building exercises
  • Designing, tailor-fitting, and matching therapeutic interventions with parent and child strengths
  • Quieting the mind: distress management tools and strategies
  • Tapping family members’ inventiveness: family play and art therapy experiments
