Child Protection: What You Need To Know About Keeping Children Safe and Working Ethically

(10.00am-5.30pm, registration: 9.30-10.00am).

This day will aim to increase child professionals' confidence and competence in dealing with child protection situations which may arise in their practice. The day will begin with an overview of the current legal and policy context within which services to children are situated. Definitions of abuse and neglect will then be considered including how children may present their experience of these within their work not only verbally but through their behaviour, play and art work. How you should deal with concerns or disclosures in line with statutory child protection procedures will then be discussed

Trainer: Michelle Lefevre
Works in private practice as a Psychotherapist with children and adults. Expert witness within care proceedings in the family courts. Lecturer in Social Work, University of Sussex. Current psychotherapeutic practice and academic position follow a career in child protection in both fieldwork and clinical settings which included undertaking child protection investigations, achieving Best Evidence interviews, assessments of significant harm and group treatment with child sexual abusers. Current research and publications include the teaching and assessment of practitioners' communication skills with children.
