The Centre for Child Mental Health, in association with Trauma Informed Schools UK, proudly presents our TISUK National Conference 2024: Cutting Edge Advances and Approaches in Trauma Informed Practice with Dr Stephen Porges, Dr Suzanne Zeedyk, Dr Margot Sunderland, Dr Amanda Jones and Andrew Fuller.
We are so excited to bring you top presenters who have all advanced both knowledge and practice in the field of mental health, trauma and trauma recovery.
Dr Stephen Porges, originator and author of The Polyvagal Theory will be interviewed live from the states, by one of the TISUK Directors. He will discuss his latest work on healing trauma including why polyvagal theory is a key knowledge base for anyone working with minds in torment.
Dr Suzanne Zeekyk will present her latest work on unpacking resistance to trauma informed interventions.
With moving case material, Dr Margot Sunderland will present on the trauma-based causes of violence and how to heal.
Dr Amanda Jones will present on the prevention of inter-generational trauma, by working with parents whose relationship with their child is already disrupted by the parent’s unworked through trauma history.
Andrew Fuller, founder of Hood Lessons shares his experience of putting Trauma Informed Practice into place.
Additionally, there will be short inspirational talks from people who are working front line with children, young people and adults, evidencing recovery from traumatic life experience.

Dr Stephen Porges
Originator and author of The Polyvagal Theory: Neurophysiological foundations of Emotions, Attachment, Communication, and Self-regulation. Distinguished University Scientist at Indiana University where he is founding Director of the Traumatic Stress Research Consortium. Professor of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina, and Professor Emeritus at both the University of Illinois at Chicago and the University of Maryland.
Dr Suzanne Zeedyk
Research scientist and developmental psychologist, University of Dundee. Founder of the organisation ‘Connected Baby’ (events and resources) The ‘Connected Baby’ documentary viewed all over the world. Organisations (health, education, prisons etc) use her resources to highlight the scientific links between early life experiences and later life outcomes.
Dr Margot Sunderland
Director of Education and Training, Centre for Child Mental Health, Director of Innovation and Research, Trauma Informed Schools UK. Founding Director, Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education. Child and adult psychotherapist with over 20 published books on child mental health. The Science of Parenting won first prize in British Medical Book awards (Popular Medicine).
Dr Amanda Jones
Expert in parent-infant disturbed relationships and psychodynamic parent-infant treatment. With the Anna Freud centre, Amanda was the therapist in the Channel 4 documentaries ‘Help me love my baby’ and ‘Breakdown or Breakthrough: pregnancy, birth and the first 18 months of life’ (with NSPCC). Consultant Perinatal Psychotherapist and Strategic & Clinical Lead, NELFT NHS Foundation Trust Parent Infant Mental Health Service.
Andrew Fuller
Andrew Fuller is a highly skilled youth and behaviour specialist renowned for his expertise in trauma-informed care. With a deep understanding of the neuroscience and psychology of trauma, Andrew focuses on helping children and teenagers navigate the complex journey of healing. His compassionate approach creates a safe and supportive environment where individuals can explore their experiences, process their emotions, and develop healthy coping mechanisms. Andrew’s primary focus lies in addressing the unique relational and emotional needs of young people who have experienced trauma, empowering them to build resilience and forge positive relationships.
