This session will focus on the voice and singing as a vehicle to explore, express and regulate emotions. It will provide an overview of some of the research into singing/voice work and mental health and well-being. The session will equip participants with some understanding and practical ideas for how voice work and singing can aid in promoting mental health as well as offer a vessel for expressing trauma.


 

Presenter: Emily Foulkes

EmilyFoulkes 

Emily Foulkes is the Director of Music for Good. She is also a practitioner, researcher and trainer. She has worked nationally in music education over the last 20 years and has the most incredible amount of experience and knowledge of music for well-being and music education fields.

Emily works at both the strategic and practitioner level as it enables her to see the whole picture. She has a Masters in Voice Pedagogy which has supported her to focus on singing for health and well-being and undertake practitioner research. This research has mainly been in the fields of singing and mental health and singing for pain management. She has presented her research widely at numerous conferences and delivered seminars and training events for organisations across the UK. ​Emily is also a course tutor for the Voice Study Centre, supporting students from all over the world with their own research. In her free time she enjoys singing, composing, and arranging songs, offering massage and Reiki treatments... and walking her dog.
